Colour inspiration #002

Pattern and colour palette inspired by the rich saturated colours of Orla Kiely's new fall/winter collection below.

Colour inspiration #001

I love the colour scheme of this room from Domino's gallery. I am hoping to start collecting colour palettes inspired by objects, rooms and places that attract me.

Make up the wall

I think these "colouring walls" by Maria Kirk Mikkelsen are so fun and unique. What better way for your child to express his/her artistic abilities than to allow them to colour their own walls!

They even have design templates for you to create your own work of art on your walls!

Sudoku toilet roll

Think my dad will love this. He is so obsessed with this that he actually invented his own version of this game and generates his own puzzles to solve. There are exactly 240 puzzles in a roll. Available here. (via Designboom)

Rocking chair

An insect rocking chair by Paulius Vitkauskas! Wonder how rocking on it will actually feel like. Available here.

Everybody is free (to wear sunscreen)

Jessica Nebel

I just love these designs by Jessica Nebel. "Pixel It” below consists of two layers of paper. Cuts on an white outer layer allow the user to fold parts out to reveal a coloured layer underneath which forms a pixeled image.

With the “Take-Away Sink” (below) there is no need for an extra bucket in the house. The possibility of removing the washbasin also encourages the saving of water by the re-usage of it.

Polaroid Pictures

I just love these poloroid photographs taken by Grant Hamilton. Very pantone. Minimalism and pure abstraction at its best. You may also be able to pick up a few colour inspirations at his flickr page.

Brocade Home

I just love these wonderful products I saw at Brocade Home. If you remember the recent Samsung ad with Beyoncé at the Hotel Gansevoort, you may be interested to know that all the lobby furniture of the chic hostelry were swapped for products from Brocade Home. That is 3 ads in 1 - the actual Samsung phone, Beyoncé's B'Day Delux Album and Home Accessories from Brocade. Very clever and subtle advertising!

Kids Factory

I really think these images I found at Kidsfactory are one of the most enchanting rooms for children I have ever come across. It is so lovely to grow up in a room where it seems like nothing is impossible...where one can dream and have your imagination take you as far as you would like to go. There are lots more inspirational images and even a 360degree panorama of the rooms here!

Droog

Some cool products I came across today at Droog shop. Based in Amsterdam, Droog is an innovative company that collaborates with a variety of designers, enlightened clients and manufacturers to create innovative concepts that change and rethink the products we use everyday.
(above) Clothes hanger lamp. By hanging the garment of your choice on the hanger you create a personalized lamp. A great way to use your favourite fashion finds to "accessorise" your home.

(above)Strap antracite. Books, magazines, toys and other objects can be stored behind these colourful rubber belts made from an ordinary bike strap.

(above) Hang on easy. Transform a bare light bulb into a translucent soft light in an instant! (above) Do Frame Tape. Use this tape to give an artistic finish to anything you like. A photograph, a prized trophy, a vase of flowers, a wall grafitti...anything!

(above) Mat walk bathroom mat. These slippers built into the mat allows you to walk comfortably and without slipping on dirty or wet floors. Doubles up as a floor mop!

Chest of Drawers

I am definitely a big fan of reuse and re-appropriation in design that raises questions about the status quo. Tejo Remy is probably one of my favourite designers that I look to for inspiration in this area. His designs has a sense of nostalgia and contemporary function. He often gives it a dry humourous twist by combining old materials and techniques with new modern forms. I really like “Chest of Drawers.” (above). This unorthodox piece is composed of various recycled drawers, all different sizes, colors and shapes, haphazardly bound together with a giant furniture mover's strap. Each piece unique.

Vintage Belt Floor

I saw this beautiful floor mat over at Branch via sub-studio. Designed by London-based Ting, the mat is made up of a bunch of vintage leather belts that are mounted on a backing of reconstituted leather to evoke the look of a wonderfully worn wood floor. oh...I just love the colour and tones of distressed leather. Each mat is one-of-a-kind.

D&A Sitting Sphere

Made out of 4 modular units , the D&A Sitting Sphere can be put together to create different unique landscapes in the public environment. This arrangement allows sitting options which vary from formal to informal sitting and encourages interaction between people. The inspiration for this design came from sitting in nature, like on a rock. The is perfect for slouchers like me. Really hope to see these in more public spaces around! (via Designspotter)

Thank You!

I just want to say a special Thank You to a few design blogs that gave a special mention to Laissezfaire recently.

She is currently doing some work for a new Dutch magazine Hide&Chic and is contributing every Friday blogger at 2Modern. Thanks Irene!

2. To Another Shade of Grey for highlighting Laissezfaire as "Today's Must Read". This is another wonderful design blog that I visit often for design inspirations. Lots of great stuff posted daily. Thank you!

3. And also a big Thank You to so many others who have linked Laissezfaire and taken the time to tell me know much you enjoy this blog. It is really nice to know that there are so many people out there who share my passion for design and all things beautiful!
