Kids Factory

I really think these images I found at Kidsfactory are one of the most enchanting rooms for children I have ever come across. It is so lovely to grow up in a room where it seems like nothing is impossible...where one can dream and have your imagination take you as far as you would like to go. Orla Kiely's fall collection

I am loving the rich saturated colours of Orla Kiely's new fall/winter collection.

Droog

Some cool products I came across today at Droog shop. Based in Amsterdam, Droog is an innovative company that collaborates with a variety of designers, enlightened clients and manufacturers to create innovative concepts that change and rethink the products we use everyday.

(above) Clothes hanger lamp. By hanging the garment of your choice on the hanger you create a personalized lamp. A great way to use your favourite fashion finds to "accessorise" your home.

(above)Strap antracite. Books, magazines, toys and other objects can be stored behind these colourful rubber belts made from an ordinary bike strap.

(above) Hang on easy. Transform a bare light bulb into a translucent soft light in an instant! (above) Do Frame Tape. Use this tape to give an artistic finish to anything you like. A photograph, a prized trophy, a vase of flowers, a wall grafitti...anything!

(above) Mat walk bathroom mat. These slippers built into the mat allows you to walk comfortably and without slipping on dirty or wet floors. Doubles up as a floor mop!

Chest of Drawers

I am definitely a big fan of reuse and re-appropriation in design that raises questions about the status quo. Tejo Remy is probably one of my favourite designers that I look to for inspiration in this area. His designs has a sense of nostalgia and contemporary function. He often gives it a dry humourous twist by combining old materials and techniques with new modern forms. I really like “Chest of Drawers.” (above). This unorthodox piece is composed of various recycled drawers, all different sizes, colors and shapes, haphazardly bound together with a giant furniture mover's strap. Each piece unique.

Vintage Belt Floor

I saw this beautiful floor mat over at Branch via sub-studio. Designed by London-based Ting, the mat is made up of a bunch of vintage leather belts that are mounted on a backing of reconstituted leather to evoke the look of a wonderfully worn wood floor. oh...I just love the colour and tones of distressed leather. Each mat is one-of-a-kind.

D&A Sitting Sphere

Made out of 4 modular units , the D&A Sitting Sphere can be put together to create different unique landscapes in the public environment. This arrangement allows sitting options which vary from formal to informal sitting and encourages interaction between people. The inspiration for this design came from sitting in nature, like on a rock. The is perfect for slouchers like me. Really hope to see these in more public spaces around! (via Designspotter)

Plant wall

Plantwall from Green Fortune is a new way of integrating greenery in public spaces. This vertical piece of greenery is not only beautiful, the plants also provides oxygen and humidity to improve the air quality. Some plants even have air cleaning properties. It is almost like being outside. I say this is a perfect alternative to wallpaper for your home! (via Living in Andyland)

Marie Claire Maison

Marie Claire Maison is perhaps one of my favourite sites for home decor. It has been some time since I've looked to it for design inspiration. While I do feel a little handicapped that the site is in French, the gorgeous pictures I always find there often makes up for it. Did you know that they also have a blog? It's in French, though.

Decorating details - floors

When it comes to decorating, it is the little details that could sometimes make all the difference. The fabrics you use for your window, the tiles you use for your floor, the door knobs you choose etc...With so many options to choose from, it is too easy to get overwhelmed by all these tiny details. That is why I find it helpful to catalogue design ideas I like and reference them when I need them at a later time.

I really hope to be able to post more inspiring ideas and tips on decorating in Laissezfaire. If you have a favourite resource (magazines, designers, blogs, shops etc...) to share on decorating, do email me or drop a comment at this post. (above) White mosaic tiling for bathrooms not only looks great, it make the space feel clean and fresh.
(above) I just love this orange resin floor. Tough and practical, the orange adds a rich glow and really warms up the space. For more information on resin floors, click here.

(above) A dark wood floor gives a room an old fashioned feel. Pair this with simple white furnishings to achieve a classic elegant look that is timeless.

(above) The floorboards at the entrance hallway is painted black to create some drama. Here the recessed doormat is flush with the boards to keep the area neat and tidy.

Window herbs

This is perfect for urbanites who love fresh herbs but don't have space to grow them. These pots of herbs are grown in transparent pots and are provided with suction cups to place on the kitchen window. Imagine a wall of herbs! Would make a lovely kitchen window. By ZO, .

These wonderfully whimsical silk curtains with printed BLOND hair is designed by the very talented Dutch designer Nicolette Brunklaus. Perfect for adding a touch of fairytale magic to your window. This is the second time this week I have seen something made or inspired by hair!

Bird feeders

After seeing these bird cages, I am so tempted to get or make one to feed the birdies outside my apartment. Would be really nice to suspend one just outside the window and wake to birds chirping and having their breakfast in the mornings.

A perfect retreat

I just love the clean crisp feel of this 1920s Cape Cod cottage featured in Elle Decor. The decor looks like the perfect backdrop for a Calvin Klein ad. Not surprising since it was designed by Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein White Label's creative director, Keviv Carrigan and his architect partner Tim Furzer.
