Rita Saardi for Peter Copping / Nina Ricci Fall 2011 show

Some gorgeous flower pcs made by Rita Saardi as a premise of beautiful dancers wearing silk dresses for Peter Copping / Nina Ricci. I had blogged about Rita's beautiful work in a previous post here. This talented budding fashion designer (who is definitely going places) was recently invited by the house of Nina Ricci to collaborate with head designer Peter Copping for the Fall 2011 show. You can follow this exciting adventure with her on her blog here. You go girl! x

Martin Cooper

I chanced upon the work of clothing designer, fine artist and costumer Martin Cooper and was absolutely blown away by his work. A large part of Martin's work revolves round the female pelvis, which Martin find is the most fascinating and controversial bone in the human body.

I was particularly drawn to a series of conceptual sketches he did for ballet costumes. The costumes are designed around 3 chief elements: the corset, ruched tulle, and the mutation of the leotard. Inspired by the classical corseted tutu and fashion from the 15th Century (based on the paintings of Lucas Cranach the Elder), the corsets are boned and laced but is done with a modern sensibility.

Le Colonel

Gorgeous accessories by french fashion designer Julia who just started her own Label called "Le Colonel". Mad about military embroidery, plaid and lace, Julia mixes modernity, glamour and feminity with designs inspired from the'20s. I just love her sense of style and the way she chooses to showcase her creations. Do check out her website for more.

Nooka

How cool is this Nooka watch? It challenges how time is being read by representing it in a linear/graphical fashion. (via)

Fashbash

If you are up for some fashion hunting this weekend, be sure not to miss Fashbash! FashBash is the first and apparently most-loved fashion bazaar in Singapore where you can buy, sell and barter pre-loved designer tags and accessories! You also get the chance to grab stuff hot off the samples racks of local emergent and indie designer labels!

When: 18-19 August

Where: Curiocity Gallery, Nafa Campus II (Map)

ps: Lynda of littleoddforest emailed me to let me know that they will be at Fashbash. I had blogged about their quirky creatures, bags and accessores in a previous post. Littleoddforrest will be parading a little of everything, including their new collection, discounted prototypes and samples. Do catch them there if you are there!

A Walk in the Wardrobe

Via Modern Romantic, I learnt of "A Walk in the Wardrobe", an exhibit recently organized by a group of 7 fashion curators from the MA in Fashion Curation at the London College of Fashion. Operating under the name Glass-case, they aim to push boundaries and challenge the traditional museum approach to curation.

A Walk in the Walkrobe explores the intimate relationship between fashion and memory. Trying to go beyond the visual, it set out to trigger lost and forgotten memories through the sense of sound and smell. "A soundscape comprised of muffled noises—of what seemed to be people walking and rummaging through closets—was paired with bygone scents (the smell of moth and lilac) reminiscent of one’s grandmother’s wardrobe. "

Rita Saardi

Fashion designer, illustrator and stylist, Lebanese-born Rita Saardi's work has an ephemeral quality to it. She feels that, “Fashion is about l’air du temps, as Coco Chanel once said. It’s true, but today it’s more about you’re own world, your own air du temps. If everyone else is using color and you want grey, well then it should be grey. It’s your mood, your air du temps.”
