Domestic Dystopia

Domestic Dystopia is a photo-documentary of six interiors of dilapidated houses in Singapore that have been abandoned and are left in a state of disrepair. Each photograph reveals the traces left behind by previous occupants, freezing the memories in a snapshot of time. Through this series, photographer Ho Hui May takes on the task of translating the deep sense of loss and nostalgia she feels when she is inside these houses.

This is Ho's first solo exhibition in Singapore and is one I wouldn't want to miss! You can catch it @ Kay Ngee Tan Architects Gallery, 16-17 Duxton Hill. The gallery opens Tues-Fri 11am-7pm, Sat 11am-6pm. For more information, click here

Polaroid Pictures

I just love these poloroid photographs taken by Grant Hamilton. Very pantone. Minimalism and pure abstraction at its best. You may also be able to pick up a few colour inspirations at his flickr page.

I came across this website with the most amazing photography taken by Scott Stulberg. Some of his pictures really tug at the heart. You got to check out his website to see what I mean.

Deleted Images

Also known as 'The Junkyard of Art', DeletedImages brings an artistic perspective to unsharp, moved, blurry and unfocused pictures that would have been deleted otherwise.

I just submitted a blurry shot taken by a friend on my wedding day to them. Really like it a lot as it pretty much summarises what I felt, saw and remember of that day.

Some of my favourites below.

Wedding Photographers Series - The Pond

I will end my favourite wedding photographers series for now by bringing you the work of Tan Ngiap Heng. Heng started taking photographs as a tourist. Calling himself "a people photographer", he loves shooting people's faces and their bodies. I love the raw textured quality of his simple black and white pictures and the fact that he manages to capture the mood of the wedding day though people. Trained as a dancer himself, Heng is currently the resident photographer of the Singapore Dance Theatre.

Below: Heng's work for the Singapore Dance Theatre. Do check out more of his current work on his website, flickr page and photoblog.

Wedding Photography Series: Eye-Deas Photography

I first got to know about Ron's work through an entertaining blog I read regularly by blinkymummy. I fell in love with Ron's strikingly simple and story telling pictures almost immediately. This guy has an amazing eye for detail. Do check out more of his work at his website.

Wedding Photography Series - Hurricadia

I will begin my favourite wedding photographers series with Hurricadia. Pronounced "Hurry-Kay-Dee-Ah", the company has been in existence since 2000. It prides itself on being a freelance studio specialising in simplistic, minimalist design. I had engaged the principal photographer Terence Heng to do our candid photography during my own wedding in 2005 and really loved the pictures he took for us.

Passion for the visual has long been part of Terence's philosophy. Deciding that a single career was never going to be interesting enough, he hung up his desires for the not-so glamourous world of finance to join the even less glamourous world of academia, art and advertising. He holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Nottingham and an MSc in Management Research from the Said Business School, University of Oxford.

Terence believes that not all wedding photography is about making people stand in a straight line and smile with their chins down. He loves the spontaniety of shooting the day's events, and feels that getting fed at the wedding dinner is the best perk of the job. Terence shuttles in between Singapore and the UK and limits the wedding clients he takes each year to ensure that he maintains a fresh perspective on his work.

Wedding photography

Like many other countries I believe, wedding photography is a big thing in Singapore and it is not uncommon to hear couples paying thousands of dollars just to have their wedding pictures taken.

Anyone can take a picture with a camera, but I believe it is only a sensitive photographer with a keen eye for detail that is able to capture the true essence of the day.

I will be sharing the work of some of my favourite local wedding photographers over the next week or so. Hope this will be useful resource and inspiration to lovely folks out there getting married. Please feel free to email me if you would like to share the work of your favourite wedding photographers with others. Enjoy!

For inspiration only

A high school student asked if I could help source for a beautiful picture for her to draw for her advance drawing class in school. Found these photographs from Thaissa's gallery on deviantart. Love the light, colours and textures in these abstract images and think that these could be reinterpreted really well in a drawing.
Also love the hues and quality of these faded photographs by S6ltuvus.

ps: Good luck high school girl! There are lots more beautiful pictures on their website. Do check it out! Send me a pic of your completed masterpiece!

Le Jardin

I usually like to kick-start off my day with something right, something inspirational, to get me going. And when I feel a little down during the day, I just look or think of it to remind me of what I love and the beauty out there in this world created by Him that is larger than myself.

Today, I have chosen these beautiful pics (below) from Le Jardin's blog entitled "Lace at Eden". Just lurve the textures and composition of these images.

Her "Study of Local Crops" collage (below) is just as beautiful.

These are some pictures of her room in London. So eclectic!
