Communist Chic

Check out Ostel, a new budget hotel in Berlin that celebrates Communist retro chic. It must be my penchant for nolstalgic items, coupled with my several visits to my husband's Russian motherland, that started me appreciating this style of decor. The hotel is located in a former East German housing block in the Berlin Mitte district. The rooms are furnished with Communist-era pieces salvaged from private houses and second hand shops. . ohh...I just love the fabrics and wallpaper and the music on their website!

what i love is how the colours are not matchy-matchy, and they set each other off to pop even more against each other.

and the repeated-pattern designs! witty disguised as staid :)

looking at this one can totally see how communist russia was really a superpower...heh.

I am totally into such large prints and patterns at the moment. My parents-in-law are both delighted and bewildered by my current fascination in designs from the communist era. =)

alright- it is official.. love your blog! I am an event designer and I try to find inspiration from non-event related items... and I believe that this room may be a great direction for a project that I am working on right now... I'll keep you posted ... and thank you.
